Our People - Roy

royverticalMeet Roy Thompson. Roy has worked for Waste Efficiency for 3 years providing support services on one of our major client’s sites.

Roy is not an environmental activist but is someone who takes pride in making a difference in his own way. Roy’s approach sums up Waste Efficiency’s approach – if he sees a better, more environmentally responsible way of doing things – he will do it, he will challenge our client to do better themselves and will lead by example.

As the last few years have been particularly challenging our client felt that whilst it could afford to invest in the Roy, (why wouldn’t they? – with the savings he makes he more than pays for himself) they could not justify the expenditure on a shelter for him to work in, as his work mainly happens outside he is exposed to the elements.

Displaying the sort of resourcefulness that Waste Efficiency brings to an organisation Roy built his own shelter from discarded materials present on the site.

Whilst this may seem a little eccentric and quirky, ask yourself a question. Which would be better for your company: the grey-suited, jargon-speaker, engrossed in graphs and Powerpoint... or a "can-do" human-being who will go the extra mile, who will challenge you to do things better – and will ultimately pay for themselves through their creativity and effort?

That’s the thing with value, if you can’t measure it in pound notes you're probably not getting it.

But don’t be fooled, Roy is no hobbyist, nor does he have a schoolboy penchant for building dens, he is fully trained in the latest waste minimisation techniques, is trained to WAMITAB standards, he is fully conversant with the requirements of ISO14001 and manages all waste management compliance documentation on site.
